Operation Petticoat
November 5, 2007
I just love the old films and whilst flicking through the channels the other day I saw Operation Petticoat.
Starring Cary Grant, Tony Curtis and a whole host of other actors of the day this is a film about the US Navy in the Pacific during the second world war - of course starring both of the above then it is a comedy first and foremost.
I am sure you know why I am including it on this site - because of the bevy of seamed stockings on show - now whether they were worn during this time period - and whether they would have been worn in the Pacific is a subject for debate another day - all I can say is they are great.
The best scene for me is when the ladies (hence the name petticoat) arrive on board the submarine and are climbing upto the top of the conning tower - as they go up you get a great view of cuban and havana healed fully fashioned stockings! - you dont get a glimpse of any stocking tops whilst the ladies are on board but at one point they are all hanging on a line in the engine room!
A harmless and superb film all in and one definately for a cold saturday afternoon in the depths of winter!
